More-
I has the urge to sentinel this (once more) after watching The Cellar because they have similar themes and I just love this movie. I don't intendance what anyone says even if they're probably correct.
Because this movie is a mess. It didn't accept to be, but I've never seen such an obvious example of studio butchering as is seen hither, in this case to achieve a PG-13 rating. The original cutting is 102 mins while the theatrical version clocks in at 88 minutes and that missing xiv minutes really shows, but damn if this movies isn't a fucking MOOD.
A haunted firm movie with lots of haunted house things happening and more than plenty style and visual flair to go along you…

A father lashes out with increasing fury towards his family after their arrival in a new Spanish home. Is it his progressive neurological illness or the place'due south night manifestations? You already know...
Very handsome poor man's husk of Kubrick's Shining that elicits much thumb twiddling and phone checking. Star Anna Paquin as the human's daughter floats right on through, Lena Olin equally her female parent tries the hardest, Giancarlo Giannini is on his usual coarsely speculative automobile-pilot, and Iain Glen equally Hack Torrance will make y'all wanna saddle upward to the bar again with Jack. Any mystery between brain illness and paranormal is squashed by obvious ghostly kid connections made direct away during his sudden episodes.
Darkness boils down to Fantastic…

This human was cutting up potatoes as if he was trying to strengthen his connection to god!

This came upward in a chat about movies with awful reviews that I actually enjoy. I didn't know it was so completely eviscerated past the critics until many years afterwards I'd seen it. I've seen information technology a few times and always thought information technology was a cool concept with a nice set and some creepy atmosphere.
Notwithstanding! I had a re-create of the Unrated version, the only version I'd e'er seen, but could not find it concluding night. So we watched the PG-13 cut, and male child do I understand improve. I still recall that the movie got a bad rap from critics, as it is a relatively average horror movie in this cutting. There are some cheesy jump scares, but however…

Jaume Balaguero's "Darkness" is a skilful looking and moody horror film that is besides besides empty and scattered for its own expert. There never seems to be much going on below the motion picture'due south jump scares and forced jolts, and the film's characters run around feigning alarm at situations that are simply frightening considering the script declares them so. Withal, "Darkness" is watchable; information technology simply does not compel enough to earn any but the most patient fans.
Anna Paquin, Lena Olin, and Iain Glen star in this horror tale the finds a young woman discovering the truth about both her rambling country home and her family. Secrets from the past come uncovered, threatening the sanity and safety of those in the…

A great tag-line that didn't comport on to the moving-picture show itself. Anna Paquin was delightful every bit always and her supporting bandage should be credited too however the storyline was shallow, and at times confusing. The plot follows a family unit who motion to Spain to exist nearly Grandad an apparent notable Dr. (Why the story was gear up in Spain is beyond me, or though there peradventure a perfectly good caption for this and I just happened to miss it.) The new "family abode" is big one-time and creepy the perfect setting for a second rate thriller/horror. The usual unexplained things outset to happen and the the kids (Paquin and her brother)start to get scared. Dad'southward once cured illness returns and Mom…

November Horror 2020, Day 8, challenge #17 - someone who was in Trick r Treat (Anna Paquin)
I looooove Trick r Treat, one of my rare five-star movies, and this sounded upward my alley then I was hoping for a hidden precious stone. Sadly it's more like fossilized cave poop. I'k genuinely surprised by how much I hated this. Like, it's just a agglomeration of stuff that happens? We're thrown into this family and expected to care what happens to them I guess, despite knowing nothing virtually them. The male child colours, the daughter swims, dad has some kind of brain result, and mom is a terrible mom who brushes off everything her kids say with "it's fine." And non fifty-fifty in…

How-do-you-do and welcome children of chaos.
This is a picture show that does not know what it wants to be. Anna Paquin and Lena Olin but go through the motions not giving much emotion. Where Iain Glen over acts his way though every scene. He does non come off every bit crazy as much as he does goofy.
The dull ghost movie turn into a deadening cult moving-picture show that never really reaches the interesting elements it could, more worried nigh weird stuff like larve in the walls talking the the Dad and Anna Paquin swimming that amounts to very little. I don't mind traits similar her swimming that is but there for character, it's just they have that instead of ramping dread or just giving the states a character to intendance about.
Also, as I have said before Trapezoids to summon, Isosceles Triangles to demark. Don't use circles you amateurs.

I really similar the night. You get a damn adept sleep in it, sets the right atmosphere for the creepy scary films I similar.
Darkness aside it'southward a damn well done creepy place, the onetime family portraits, the sneaky hidden rooms, let's not forget there is a definite hold on the adults.
Poor kids were put right through the ringer. Lights out kids.

The fearfulness of the dark is linked to the nigh primitive and strong fear of humanity: the fright of the unknown. It's a shame that so many horror movies are and so blunt in dealing with this theme.
A good example of how to approach this fear is in this year'south impressive "A Dark Song".I love Jaume Balagueró. Like many, his showtime movie I watched was the splendid "REC", 1 of the all-time zombie movies I've ever seen.
The marketing of his upcoming picture show "Musa" made me curious to know more than nearly his cinematography, starting with "Darkness," with dear Anna Paquin.Zip hither is original and some ideas seem interesting when presented simply soon they go a pile of clichés.…

Another family moves into a spooky old house and weird stuff starts to happen. 👻
This is mostly average. It does have great temper and some great moments but never quite reaches the heights information technology strives for. Information technology's a more than mature approach that does give off classic seventy'south horror vibes, just wish it actually hitting that horror abode run.
I watched this back in the day for Anna Paquin and Lena Olin, but now I know who Iain Glen is after watching Game of Thrones, and he'southward the real standout, giving the states some major intensity.

Upon its initial release in North America, Darkness was heavily edited and concluded upwards resembling a jumbled mess to secure a PG-13 rating. Fortunately the moving picture was restored to its original vision when released on DVD and that'due south what is reviewed hither. Anna Paquin leads the bandage as a teenage girl who, with her family, moves to a house in the country just to find in that location's something sinister lurking in there waiting for them.
Though the uncensored version of the film is a marked improvement over the theatrical release it all the same features as well many quick cuts, predictable jump scares, a generic plot including a parent who refuses to see what is happening to their family and a child driveling by…
