Could you update your OS to latest also? Usually latest OS and latest Office work good. Also try to update your Office so that if any patch is released by Microsoft that would flow in.

It is also possible that latest version of Office has this bug as many issues are being reported in this new version.

I would suggest that you should post simultaneously to Technet forum also as this will be looked into by MS Product team also. So, your question will be on two forums - This and Technet.

As you know, the chart design tab should appear automatically whenever the chart is selected. Have you restarted your Mac since updating? If not, please try that. You can also display the formatting pane by right-clicking on the chart and choosing Format Chart Area.

My work IT dpt. won't let me update OS yet :( But, I am on the latest microsoft office version.

Restart did not work unfortunately. I clicked around the format chart area panel but I couldn't find the option to add legend info on the pie chart itself rather than on the side :/

Hi Carly,

To troubleshoot the issue, please help to provide the following information:

1.Is Chart Design tab missing when you create a specific Chart type in Excel? Please try creating charts with other types and check the outcome.

2.When you right click the chart and choose Format Chart Area, can you see the Format Chart Area pane showing in the right side of the workbook?

If you cannot see the pane, please capture a related screenshot to describe the situation on your side.

3.Please also provide a related screenshot when you select a chart while the Chart Design tab doesn't show up.

4.Does the issue happen in a specific workbook or all workbooks? Please create a new workbook and check the result.

5.Your Mac version. (Apple menu>About this Mac)

1. It's when I create any chart using data selected from a pivot table.

But when i create any chart from just mock data typed in, it works

2. I can see the format chart area pane when I right-click, but it does not allow me to incorporate the legend in the chart (like I did on the second screenshot above)

3. The first question has screenshots relevant to this question

4. Looks like this issue is happening ONLY when trying to create charts using data from a pivottable. This is happening with both a brand new workbook and with the workbook that I originally was seeing the issue with.

Hey Carly,

I am having the same issue and it it really causing me issues when trying to create reports that I have borrow a different laptop just to get produce reports I had easily created before.

Tina: This make no sense whatsoever. This functionality works perfectly fine on versions before this latest update. I have tried making these charts on version 15.19 and this is the only way I am able to complete my job. Something is wrong with the latest update.
